Avery James Special Shoes

Avery has been going to physical therapy for a few months now. At first (10 months) she was going for some developmental delays and sensory issues that she was experiencing. Our doctor wanted us to wait until she was 12 months but the teacher in me was saying "why wait!" So he went ahead and referred us. Within one month she was crawling, pulling up and rolling over more consistently. Within two months she was cruising all over the house. Around 12 months the therapist , Mrs. S noticed that AJ was very unstable and was unable to stand independently. She also noticed that AJ had server pronation (feet turn out and roll in) and hypotonia (low muscle tone). Over the next month we watched her closely hoping that the problem would fix itself. Well it did not so we were sent to get AFOs (ankle-foot orthosis/a mini leg brace). Well after all the paper work, doctor visits, and insurance phone calls we finally got her leg braces in yesterday. Avery has been walking for about a month (she just learned to walk with her feet turned out). So now she is trying to gain more stability and correct her feet position.

Avery James on the move!
Avery does not mind the braces at all. The only problem is she is having to get used to wearing extra wide tennis shoes all the time.

We are so proud of AJ and can not wait to see her start running and jumping!

All Tucker'd out from the walking and playing!

What a sweet little girl miss Avery is! Sounds like she wasn't letting her feet get in her way in the first place, but glad she'll get walking the best way for her feet!

It seems like I remember another little baby that needed special shoes...Jeff? Anyway, you guys are great parents and so glad you are doing whatever it takes for little Avery. Chloe had severe sensory issues for a while and even now it crops up with loud noises. Hang in there and I will be praying for you!
